ASSHOLES

From the brilliantly twisted mind of multitalented actor-cum-director Peter Vack (I Believe in Unicorns, M.F.A) comes debut feature Assholes, a low-fi masterpiece destined for cult status. Ushering mumblecore into the realms of not only the weird but also the outright perverse, the film follows Adah (Betsey Brown) and Aaron (Jack Dunphy), recovering drug addicts who remain trapped in the lifestyle of hard partying and hedonistic temptation that they’ve built for themselves. After a serendipitous meeting at their psychoanalyst’s office, the pair spiral into a frenzied relapse and soon fall madly in love. Overcome by the evil influence of none other than Mephistopheles, Adah and Aaron begin chasing a never-ending high and, along the way, become quite possibly the biggest assholes in New York. With the eye-popping end result impressively made on a shoestring budget and featuring cameos from Vack’s family and friends, Assholes announces its guiding force as a creative talent to watch. From lascivious scenes of anal fisting to the manifestation of literal shit demons, this is top-shelf, off-the-wall debauchery that will stay with you long after you've left the cinema.
Assholes | Dir. Peter Vack | Comedy | 74mins | USA | 2017 | Sydney Premiere
“Like a micro-budget cross between Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom and The Squid and the Whale, Peter Vack’s impressively disgusting Assholes is the kind of movie that you wish you could un-see, the kind of movie that you have to watch in your peripheral vision because staring at it straight-on would be way too nauseating.”

“This is Requiem for a Dream played for laughs… Assholes is one of the most bizarre, original, and flat-out gross films you'll ever see.”
